1. Tanglewood Park

Tanglewood Park in Clemmons is basically in your backyard, about a 15 minute drive from downtown Winston Salem depending on traffic. Despite being so close to town, the quiet wooded areas and rolling hills in the park give a feeling of natural seclusion. There are tons of activities in Tanglewood Park, from golf to horseback riding. Plus, pets are welcome at the RV park, so bring your four legged friends along! The Tanglewood RV Park is open in the warmer months from March to November.

2. Pilot Mountain

Pilot Mountain is only 25 minutes from downtown Winston. This famous North Carolina landmark, known for it’s distinctive raised, flat shape, is a hugely popular outdoor escape. Though it’s an easy day trip to Pilot Mountain, staying overnight in your RV is an option year round. Enjoy the gorgeous view from the top of Pilot Mountain with an easy hike perfect for inexperienced hikers, like families with younger children.

4 Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain State Park is about an hour from downtown Winston Salem. Stone Mountain is a huge stone dome in the middle of the park, a landmark famous for rock climbing here in North Carolina. But if you’re not so much into scaling sheer rock faces, there’s plenty to do for those of us who are slightly more afraid of heights. From hiking, to picnicking, to fishing, there’s a little something for everyone at Stone Mountain, including an RV park that’s open year round!

3. Hanging Rock

Located 45 minutes from Winston Salem, Hanging Rock is a great RV-friendly adventure. The lake in Hanging Rock State Park is a lovely place to swim and fish with your family in the summer season. The RV campground is open year round, and is well equipped with plenty of comforts and attractions. Be cautious: the main hike to the summit of Hanging Rock is strenuous, so bring lots of water and make sure you’re up to the challenge! The sweeping views are well worth the steep climb.

Lake Norman State Park is about an hour drive from Winston Salem. If you’re looking for a relaxing campground where you can play in the water, Lake Norman is a fantastic choice. Swimming, fishing, boating, and all sorts of aquatic activities are available for the whole family on Lake Norman. You’ll experience the natural beauty of the lake, without being too far removed from civilization. If you keep heading down 77, you and the family can take a pit stop in Charlotte and check out the NASCAR Hall of Fame or grab a bite to eat!
