Why Your Heavy Machinery Needs a Paint Job (And What That Means)
Commercial machinery takes a pretty big beating in the course of the day. In fact, if your bulldozer or semi looks brand new when you go home for the day, it probably isn’t doing its job!
A couple dings are okay in your line of work as a heavy machinery operator. But it’s not necessarily about your expectations. Your heavy machinery represents the company you work for. If the dings and scratches makes your equipment look outdated or substandard, you’re spreading the wrong message about your company’s quality. Call in the professional techs for a paint job when you start to worry your heavy machinery is getting dingy.
What goes into a heavy machinery paint job?
1. Washing
Cleaning is the first step in your heavy machinery’s painting process. We pressure wash and degrease the surface of your machinery so it’s squeaky clean before we start painting.
2. Sandblasting
Sandblasting removes any stubborn layers of paint, as well as any corrosion on the surface of your vehicle. This technique uses compressed air or steam to shoot a jet of sand at your machinery. Sandblasting sounds like it could damage your machinery, but in reality it smooths down the surface to give you a durable and even coat of paint. We promise your machinery can handle it!
After sandblasting your vehicle and triple checking for any debris, we have a blank slate! Then the painting finally begins.
3. Painting
It’s time to give your vehicle its facelift! First, we apply an epoxy primer and base coat so your paint sticks easily to the surface. Next, we apply roughly two coats of paint. We use paint made specifically for heavy machinery, so it can handle the wear and tear that comes with the territory. Typical car paint won’t cut it for heavy machinery. A tractor trailer or a dump truck is exposed to much tougher conditions than your typical sedan!
Finally, we apply a strong urethane finish. This protects the paint from UV rays, which can cause it to fade, as well as scratches and dents.
Then, viola! You basically have a brand-spanking new piece of machinery!
